Why Does My Dog Move Their Bed Into My Room? Bobo Explains
Bobo & Mommy ·
Every night the bed starts in its proper spot. Every morning it's somehow a little closer to yours. You have a tiny, very determined interior decorator, and they work the night shift.
We caught Bobo mid-mission and asked him to explain himself.
Bobo's secret mission
Bobo, why are you always moving your bed into Mommy's room? Um? I didn't move it. It was always there.
But I just saw you dragging it. Okay, maybe it was me.
Why are you doing that? It's almost bedtime, and Bobo gets a little scared. My bed is too far from Mommy. She has to understand: I only feel safe when Mommy is close. And I have to protect her too.
Protect her from what? The dark. The hallway sounds. How can I protect Mommy if I'm in another room?
So you move your bed closer? Yes. When Mommy gets in bed and she's not looking, my mission starts. Very quietly. One inch at a time.
And where do you want it to end up? Right next to Mommy. Maybe on Mommy. But I'm starting small.
A true professional.
So why do dogs move their bed closer to us?
Bobo's bedtime engineering actually makes perfect sense:
- Safety in the pack. Dogs are wired to sleep near their group. Being close to you at night is simply where they feel safest.
- Comfort and reassurance. Bedtime can feel a little vulnerable, especially for puppies. Closing the distance to you is self-soothing.
- A bit of guard duty. Those "hallway sounds" are real to them. Many dogs genuinely feel calmer when they can keep watch over their favorite human.
The gentle tip: if you'd rather they not end up on you, place their bed in a fixed, cozy spot within sight of yours. Often just being able to see you is enough to settle the nightly relocation project.
