Table legs. Chairs. The corner of one specific cushion. And socks, always the socks. If your dog treats your home like a tasting menu, you are not alone. We asked Bobo to explain his process.

Bobo, what are you doing? What? This? Oh... this. Hihihi. I'm just checking the material.

You mean chewing it? No. I'm measuring how strong it is. With my teeth.

Bobo, you've been measuring it for thirty minutes. Yes. I have to be very careful. It has to hold Mommy. And Daddy. And Bobo.

Are you planning to check anything else? Um... yes. I have a busy schedule. Mommy is working right now, so I have to test boring things. Like this chair. No smell story. No personality. No Mommy smell.

And when Mommy comes home? Then everything changes. Her shoes come back. And, oh! Her socks. Mommy's socks are the best! But I don't understand something.

What? After I inspect her socks, Mommy never wears them again. She keeps getting new ones.

So why do dogs chew everything?

Behind Bobo's "quality inspection," here's what's really going on:

  • Teething and exploration. Puppies investigate the world with their mouths, and chewing soothes sore gums while they grow.
  • It feels good and burns energy. Chewing is naturally calming. A bored or under-exercised dog will often find their own "project," usually a chair leg.
  • Your scent is the prize. Notice how the socks and shoes win every time? Anything that smells like you is far more interesting than a plain chair.

The gentle fix: keep tempting items out of reach, offer plenty of proper chew toys, and make sure your pup gets enough exercise and attention. Redirect, don't punish.
